Disabled Hopkinton veteran gets new home

Posted: Updated:
HOPKINTON, N.H. (WHDH) - Homes for Our Troops broke ground in Hopkinton, N.H. Saturday to give a wounded Army veteran a new home.

Army Staff Sgt. Mathew DeWitt lost both his arms below the elbow while serving in Iraq in 2003 when his battalion came under enemy fire. His new home will be built around his needs.

Homes for Our Troops is building the home at no cost to DeWitt or his family.

"Having a house that is built around my needs so I can have an easier time doing day-to-day things will help ease some of the stress and frustration that comes from having a severe disability for me and my family," DeWitt said.

The breaking ground ceremony is the first of its kind for the organization.
