Twins born 24 days apart help dad with big question

Posted: Updated:
BOSTON (WHDH) - Friday was a special day for Ronaldo Antunes, Lindalva Dasilva and their two sons, but not only because the twins got to leave the hospital.

Before Alexandre and his younger brother Ronaldo left the hospital, they had to help their dad ask a very important question.

Antunes dressed the brothers in dual onesies, one said “Mom will you…” and the other said “marry dad?”

Mom said 'yes' and said she hoped they could wait a few years so the boys could be part of the wedding day, too.

"We are talking like when they're walking maybe they can hold the rings,” she said.

The boys were born in March, Alexandre on the 2nd and Ronaldo on the 26th.

The 24-day delay means separate birthdays for the boys and even different zodiac signs for the twins.

"A lot of doctors here say they never saw this in 20 years of their career,” Antunes said,

Doctors say the phenomenon is called "Delayed Internal Delivery" is very rare and risky.

They are thrilled that they day has come that the pair are going home.

"Both of them have done incredibly well. We feel really lucky to have been able to see them through this whole course,” Gina Geis, a doctor at Tufts Medical Center, said.

The couple said it was an easy decision to wait for Ronaldo after Alexandre was born.

"The decision at that moment was to let Mother Nature let us know what's going on," Antunes said.

Mom says they are her dual miracles.

"Every day I look at them. Each one in different ways," she said.
