Rides stop as Canobie Lake Park loses power Friday

Posted: Updated:

New Hampshire’s Canobie Lake Park experienced a power outage Friday that caused some rides to stop.

The outage occurred while many guests were inside the park.

No one was injured when the power went out.

Officials at the park said the rides are programmed to stop when they lose power.

Some people were stuck on the rides for about a minute before emergency generators kicked in and those rides returned to normal.

“We saw the log flume there were people going out on the log flume and they were stuck. It was kind of scary because you think, 'what if someone’s on a big roller coaster and they're stuck upside down?'” Alexandra Gosc said.

It took about 13 minutes before power was restored and all the rides went back online.

The cause of the outage is believed to be a transformer malfunction. Officials said it has been repaired.

Park employees train for situations like this and all the rides are equipped with backup generators so the rides were back running before too long.
