Woman runs race 8 months pregnant

Posted: Updated:
An Olympian who is eight months pregnant did not let having a baby on the way slow her down.

Six weeks before her first child is due, Alysia Montano was on the track competing in the 800-meter at the U.S. Championships. At just over two minutes and 32 seconds, she came in last but that didn't seem to matter.

"I wanted to be here and feeling that fire and desire. What better avenue than to do that and I feel like I deserve to be here," Montano said.

Her doctor and midwife cleared her to run at 34 weeks into her pregnancy.

"'You are a professional runner, your lactic levels will be complete,' and that took away any fear of what the outside fear might think about a woman running," Montano said.

The five-time U.S. outdoor champ said she ran in celebration and the crowd gave her a standing ovation.
