As Team USA made it into the next round of the World Cup, cooler air was slicing through Eastern Mass on the heels of a backdoor cool front. While we’d like to say both are equally rare events (USA advancing in the World Cup and a Backdoor Cold Front in summer), seems this has been the season for cool surges off the Gulf of Maine.

As it stands, we’ve seen 4 of these Backdoor Cold Front events in the past 6 weeks – whereby the wind suddenly turns to the northeast, clouds roll in and the temperatures plummet. Some have been subtle, some profound – like today’s drop of 10-20 degrees! It speaks to the pattern we’ve been in too: one that has prevented us from the elusive 90 degree day here in Boston.

This pattern also has provided us with stellar weekends. This weekend will mark the 5th straight with ample sun and mild/warm temperatures. That’s a stretch to build on, certainly, but it means nothing for next weekend – which is in limbo at this point (which also means nothing this far out).

So in summary, humidity is down and out and due to return by Sunday evening and Monday. Heat is in retreat with low/mid 80s at our warmest this weekend, and showers are not a threat until next Wednesday. Sounds pretty stellar to me.

Enjoy and be safe!
Pete
