Family caught in shootout in California

Posted: Updated:
A California family, including a pregnant woman and a child, were caught in crossfire after driving right into the middle of a shootout.

At first they sounded faint but soon, the gunshots were unmistakable and the Miller family found themselves stuck.

In the ordeal caught on camera, Chris Miller is heard trying to keep his pregnant wife and son calm, telling them to "lay down on the seat."

Miller said he only saw undercover officers shooting at a man in the desert.

"If people didn't hear the gunshots, they would have just drove right into it," Miller said.

One of the squad cars on the scene was from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. So far, officials aren't releasing any details and haven't commented on the incident but sources said that it may have been a surveillance operation.

Miller said he's just glad his family didn't get hit.

"Moved too quick for them, they weren't ready for it. They didn't plan properly."
