Musicians, fans mourn Michael Jackson's death 5 years later

LOS ANGELES (WHDH) -  Today, music fans around the world are pausing and remembering an icon.

It's been five years since Michael Jackson was found dead at the age of 50.

It was a moment in history that will never be forgotten.

It was five years ago today that the king of pop passed away.

He suffered cardiac arrest from a lethal dose of the drug propofol and another sedative.

Singer Lady Gaga paid tribute to Jackson, tweeting:

“RIP Micheal. We love you. Today the world and media will grieve your absence, and think deeply of how we could have treated you better.”

His brother, Jermaine, also remembering the pop icon, posting:

“The pain never eases. Michael's absence is still hard to take. But let's find comfort in happy memories & HIS music. Play his music. Cry. Light candles. Lay flowers. Smile. Dance. Reminisce. Be still. Celebrate Michael's life #youarenotalone”

Before his death, Jackson kept his three children out of the spotlight.

Since his passing, Paris, Prince and Blanket have stepped out of the shadows.

His oldest son, Prince, is even embracing his fame, appearing as a guest correspondent for "Entertainment Tonight" in 2013.
