Witness saw woman climb out of car in Back Bay crash

Posted: Updated:
BOSTON (WHDH) - A witness to the Back Bay crash that took two lives is speaking to investigators and sharing her story.

The witness didn’t want to appear on camera because she expects she will be called to testify, but she said she saw the Ford Explorer upside down.

According to the witness the woman climbed out of the driver’s side window but it wasn’t clear if she was driving or if she was crawling over her husband.

Police are still trying to determine who was driving. The female in the car who was originally believed to be driving does not have a driver’s license.

It was believed that the woman’s husband lied to police and said he was driving when the car ran a red light and caused the fatal crash, but witnesses tell conflicting stories.

John Lanzollotti and Jessica Campbell of Brookline were both killed while they were walking down the street and got hit by the car.

The attorney for the couple in the car said he knows the case isn’t over, and he’s waiting to see if when the couple will be arrested and who will be charged with motor vehicle manslaughter.
