Sweltering heat and humidity. We were close in Boston, but fell one degree short of our 1st 90 degree day of the season. Some made it though. Check the temps to the right.

Nasty storms rolled through Northern New England this afternoon. Check out the radar picture right before it slammed Rochester, NH. That lightning volley (with up to 150 strikes in 5 min.) briefly knocked out power to the city. In the meantime, a big blob of warm air in the mid and upper atmosphere warded off the storms across Southern New England this afternoon. That zone of protection is lifting this evening, allowing the storms to sink south into Mass. around midnight. With the storm threat comes the chance for drenching rain, however, so prepare for a good dose of water while you sleep.

Tomorrow will be wrapped up with storms and (at best) some hazy sun breaks. Greatest threat to get wet is in the morning around Boston and points north, then in the afternoon across Southern/Southeast Mass. Again the threat here is for heavy rain, so the storm drains will be running…and the gardens/lawns will be happy.

More refreshing air is in route behind the storms, too. Some of that may seep in during the late afternoon hours tomorrow, but it will be most noticeable by Thursday night and Friday. Speaking of, the setup to the weekend is simply superb. Timing is right (again) for a stellar weekend with low humidity. Make plans now!
