Penn. boy lives out dream as police officer

Posted: Updated:
BETHEL PARK, Penn. (WHDH) - At 8 years old, Joey Fabus is the youngest police officer in Pennsylvania. He was sworn in as a Bethel Park officer.

Just like the other officers, he spent his day logging time in the police station, patrolling the streets, and handing out tickets.

Joey lived his lifelong dream in one day, because he has an uncertain number of days left.

"He wanted to be a policeman when he grew up and gets to do that today," said Joey's mother, Cindy Fabus.

Joey has been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor and given only six months to a year to live.

"It's been wonderful. We've had a huge outpour of love and support and it means the world to us," his mother said.

Joey didn't get the key to the city, but he did get a pair of handcuffs. And if his smile says anything, it says to live fully, each day, no matter how short the time we have.
