BROCKTON, Mass. (WHDH) -
A Brockton man has been charged with murdering his father Monday night, according the Plymouth Country District Attorney.
The stabbing happened at 16 Louis Street just after 9 p.m.
Amilton Goncalves, 21, allegedly stabbed his father, Joaopedro Goncalves, in the home they lived in together.
Investigators belive the father and son had an ongoing dispute throughout the day Monday. They say Amilton hit his mother in the face then left the home. When the father returned from the hospital where the mother received treatment, Amilton allegedly stabbed him once in the center of the chest.
“When the officers told the defendant he was charged with murder the defendant kept saying ‘that little knife killed my father, there’s no way that knife can kill my father,’” prosecuting attorney Catherine Ham said.
Joaopedro was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A lawyer for Amilton said he his client should not be charged with murder.
“My client is backing up, retreating every step of the way and yelling get away from me, don’t do this and he takes out the knife and waves it as he backs away,” defense attorney Liam Scully said.
Amilton has been arrested several times previously for assaulting his parents but has never been convicted.
