John Kerry opens up about future in TODAY interview

Posted: Updated:
UNDATED (NBC) -  Secretary of State John Kerry says his days hitting the campaign trail are behind him.

“I have no plans to run for public office again,” he told TODAY’s Savannah Guthrie in an interview that aired Friday.

“This is my last public position I think, and I’m going to try and get the job done as well as I can,” the former Democratic presidential nominee said.

But he joked that it’s also wise “never say never to anything,” especially when he’s got a puppy as popular as he has, a yellow Labrador retriever who has his own Twitter handle, @Diplomutt.

“You know, I might run for dog catcher,” he quipped. “But no, I’m not running. I’m not running.”
