A teen accused of murdering his teacher was being held in state custody when he allegedly attacked another female.
The Essex County Assistant District Attorney released new details Thursday about the attack in which they say 15-year-old Phillip Chism followed a counselor into a private area at the Department of Youth Services facility where he was being held.
"Having taken steps to elude staff assigned to observe him, the defendant walked out of a so-called "downtime" room, followed a female counselor into a locker room/bathroom area and physically attacked her,” court documents say.
No one initially noticed what had happened.
"The defendant was able to choke and beat her about the head and face before staff intervened and restrained him,” the document say.
The DA’s office says this attack is very similar to an attack when then 14-year-old Chism allegedly followed his math teacher, Colleen Ritzer, into a bathroom at Danvers High School where he raped and killed her.
Chism was transferred to Worcester State Hospital and the DA’s office is recommending that no female be alone in the same room as Chism for fear of another attack.
