Lynn boys recovering from hot-water burns in Boston

Posted: Updated:
BOSTON (WHDH) -  Two young boys are recovering from burns at Shriners Hospital in Boston after their babysitter left them in a tub and the water temperature got turned up.

A 2-year-old boy is still in critical condition with burns covering 50 percent of his body, his 3-year-old brother has burns covering 80 percent of his body and is in stable condition.

Investigators are still trying to figure out how the boys got so badly burned inside their Lynn apartment Wednesday morning.

A neighbor who was babysitting the boys told his father that he put the boys into the tub and then went across the hall.

The babysitter says when he came back the boys were screaming and scalded, he says the older brother apparently turned up the hot water.

Relatives stopped by the family apartment to get clothes and other items for the father and boys during their unexpected hospital stay.

"The kids are doing very well. They’re hanging in there,” one woman said.

The babysitter’s father said he questions whether the water going to the tub was too hot. Doctors say water within the legal limit still could have caused the burns.
