State Rep. questions how illegal immigrant got healthcare

Posted: Updated:
MILFORD, Mass. (WHDH) - A state representative voicing concerns about how an undocumented immigrant was able to get health care benefits from the state.

Nicholas Guaman was found guilty of vehicular manslaughter for driving drunk and killing a man in 2011.

Guaman, an illegal immigrant, had been given health insurance from the state.

Now, State Representative Ryan Fattman wants to know how that happened.

“Over the last four years, so many people have struggled who are ineligible for Mass. Health. Who would need a little bit of extra help if they lost their job or if their family fell on tough times. And yet, somebody who came to our country illegally was able to gain access to this. What kind of documentation did Nicholas Guaman use to receive Mass. Health Benefits?” Fattman, D-Sutton, said.

Guaman was convicted of killing 24-year-old Matthew Denice in the crash.

Denice was on his motorcycle at the time when Guaman ran a stop sign. Prosecutors said Denice was dragged to his death.
