Police looking for Foxborough jewelry store thief

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (WHDH) - A jewelry store worker was pepper sprayed and robbed in broad daylight in Foxborough Wednesday.

Witnesses say they spoke to the victim and police at the scene after the attack.

“Apparently they maced the poor guy, the held a gun to his head, duct taped him, and cleaned the place out,” Dr. Cameron Macewen, an employee at another store in the strip mall, said.

This brazen robbery happened less than an hour after most of the businesses in this strip mall opened.

Next door, workers noticed a guy who didn't seem dressed for 90 degree weather.

“They saw a strange, unusual fella walking up and down the walkway, and it caught their attention because it was hot he was wearing a slicker, long sleeve coat,” Macewen said.

Police say the man was wearing a fleece jacket, and a baseball hat, attempting to cover his face.

Officers stopped at every store, looking for any surveillance cameras that might have video of the robber.

“The policeman told me the guy next door just got robbed, they tied him up,” Manuel Pacheco, a witness, said.

Other business owners said the robber spent 10-15 minutes inside the jewelry store, but Foxborough police wouldn't confirm if the victim was tied up.

Nearby Boyden elementary school was immediately put on lockdown. Police officers secured the perimeter of the school.

Police won't say how much money and jewelry the robber got away with, but when you look inside, you can see most of the shelves are now empty.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Foxborough Police Department at (508) 543-4343.
