Quincy city official accused of viewing child porn at work

QUINCY, Mass. (WHDH) -

A Quincy housing official appeared in court Wednesday, accused of viewing child pornography at work.

Bryant carter, 64, was wheeled in to court in a wheelchair and wearing handcuffs.

Prosecutors said a technician was working to find a virus in the Quincy Housing Authorities computer system when they found the pictures a week ago.

“He said he saw a child around 8 to 9-years-old in those photographs,” prosecuting attorney Sarah Lelle said.

Lelle said police tracked the picture to a folder which had been accessed by Carter’s login information.

“It’s my understanding that 200 images have been turned over for forensic examination at this point. When asked why he was viewing those images he said because I’m ‘stupid,’” Lelle said.

The prosecutor says Carter admitted he looked at websites, some of them overseas, and used search terms like teen and preteen.

Carter has worked for the Quincy Housing Authority for eight years and was in charge of the department’s finances. He was fired from his job before his arrest.

“There is no improprieties financially, financially we are sound. I’m happy so say that Bryant’s physical location was in an elderly disabled building, he was not near families,” Executive Director of the Quincy Housing Authority James Lydoin said.

Carter’s lawyer said there is no internet access or even a computer at the home where Carter has lived since he was a child.

Carter was released on $2,500 cash bail and ordered to stay away from children and off of the internet.
