Man saves toddler found beside Georgia highway

The parents of a 15-month-old girl who nearly wandered out on a Madison County highway are grateful for a good Samaritan who spotted her.

"He's our angel, you know, we're thankful to him from the bottom of our hearts," said mother Denise Pickens.

The parents of Emily are grateful for Bryant Collins, who found the girl wandering on the edge of a busy highway last Friday a few hundred yards from their home. The girl was not hurt.

They also want to clear their names after father Timothy Pickens was charged with neglect. Denise soon may also be charged.

The Pickens say they were in their back yard bagging aluminum cans while Emily was napping and 12-year-old brother James was supposed to be watching her.

When they found out she was missing, they panicked, searched frantically for her and called 911 only to hear she'd been found nearby.

Timothy admits he pushed a deputy who would not let him be reunited with his daughter. "My kids are my world and I couldn't find her and all I wanted to do was hold her, to make sure she was safe and they wouldn't let me do that and I just went toward her."

"She's with us 24 hours a day. She's never run off before, but we do watch her," Denise said.
