SALEM, N.H. (WHDH) - Five family members were accused of attacking two police officers in Salem, N.H.

Police said some of the family members came to the park at Canobie Lake with knives on their belts. The family was reportedly told by security to leave the knives in their car if they wanted to enter the park.

Investigators in Salem said the incident occurred Monday afternoon at the front gate when one family member became belligerent and police tried to arrest him.

According to police, the other family members then jumped on the officers.

The five family members arrested were from Vermont included a father, his three adult sons, and his daughter-in-law.

Police said the two officers were injured while trying to arrest one family member.

"It essentially was 7-on-2 with the officers, they were on the ground. The officers got punched, kicked, scratched. They were able to get three in custody, call for help. Several of our on-duty units arrived and were able to get control of the situation, get everybody in custody," said Deputy Chief Shawn Patten of the Salem, N.H. Police Department.

The officers were treated and released. One officer suffered a serious shoulder injury, but was said to be doing okay.

Three of the suspects appeared in Salem District Court.
