SOUTH BOSTON (WHDH) -
South Boston residents were upset after vandals cut down several trees along Carson beach.
Some neighbors thought it was a prank gone wrong.
"It's a pretty tough prank. It's a lot of work to cut those trees down by hand,” Richard Kirby said.
Kirby was out of town over the weekend, but his daughter and son-in-law were staying at the house.
"I think they spoke to the police and they didn't see anything, but they did see the saw blade that was still in one of the trees,” he said. "One tree was down and the four others were still standing up. But they were cut and came down later on in the day."
City officials said they did not understand the motivation for the vandalism.
"It's obviously an outrage that someone would do that,” Boston City Councilor Michael Flaherty said. "For someone to do that--to me, is actually pretty vicious and to create that type of vandalism."
Flaherty said the trees were planted about five years ago to block the wind during storms.
