Oklahoma soldier surprises kids for Father's Day

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Okla. (NBC) - Friday marked a special homecoming for one Oklahoma soldier. He made it home just in time for Father's Day to surprise his children.

Everyday, families walk through the gates of an Oklahoma zoo. On this day, two kids were inside not knowing they'll see far more than animals.

Sgt. First Class Eric Denning is boots on the ground after deployment in Kuwait. It's been eight months since he's seen his kids, Emily, 9, and Jason, 7.

"They think I'm still on a plane. They think I'm just now leaving Kuwait," Denning said.

The zoo set up a treasure hunt and the last clue was where the kids could find their father. Denning waited for a while because, as one zoo staffmember puts it, the kids were "having a good time."

Denning wasn't sure how they would react, but when the reveal actually came Emily wouldn't let go.

The day was also Jason's seventh birthday so it was extra special.
