WESTPORT, Mass. (WHDH) -
A dentist in Westport was in the middle of a root canal when the building he worked in needed to be evacuated.
Workers started feeling sick around 11 a.m. Friday.
Haz-mat crews arrived and after a sweep of the building discovered a Freon leak from an air conditioner upstairs in the building.
Dozens of people were evacuated, but there was one patient in the middle of a procedure.
“He was having all the cosmetic treatment for his front teeth done at the same time. We were halfway in the middle of that procedure and really he needed to get out and be able to smile,” Dr. David Ahearn said.
Responders were able to seal off the room while Dr. Ahearn finished the procedure.
“We put monitors in the room, sealed her off from the rest of the building and kept someone in contact with them throughout the procedure,” a fire official said.
Responders said no one was seriously sick or injured and they said leaks like this are very rare.
