Plympton teen calls police as burglar is feet away

Posted: Updated:
PLYMPTON, Mass. (WHDH) - A 16-year-old girl was home alone when a man broke into the house, and he was just feet away as she called 911.

Plympton police said they had been looking for a burglar for the past week and when Michala Callahan called, they knew they had their man.

“I could hear his footsteps, then he started to come up the stairs,” she said.

Michala's first call was to her mom who was at work 25 minutes away.

“I could barely hear her, she was whispering 'mom, someone’s in the house, someone’s in the house,’” Maureen Callahan said.

She told her daughter to call 911 and promised she'd rush home.

“I was so scared, because I’ve never been in this type of situation before, it kind of clicked that I had to call 911, I had to lock my door,” Michala said.

The burglar was in and out within seconds but luckily for police, Michala got a glimpse of the getaway car.

Plympton police were nearby and had already noticed a suspicious silver car matching the description Michala gave cruising that same neighborhood.

Officers arrested two men and when police searched the suspects' homes, they found items that were reportedly stolen.

Police believed the men were responsible for at least six break-ins in Plympton and could be linked to three others in Middleboro.
