Maria Menounos to share health tips at Expo

BOSTON (WHDH) - Maria Menounos is a born and bred member of the Bay State and this weekend at the Health and Fitness Expo she'll be sharing her health and fitness routine.

Her new book, "The EveryGirl's Guide to Diet and Fitness," is a follow up to her New York Times bestseller "The EveryGirl's Guide to Life."

"So I'm basically trying to help women out that are dealing with some extra weight and trying to figure out a way to do it with no time, no money and no will power and I think I've found that way," Menounos said.

She is drawing on personal experience. She lived a very healthy lifestyle while at home in high school but things changed when she went to college. She gained 40 pounds her freshman year but then lost it all.

"I went a little nutty but a lot of kids go a little nutty and luckily for me, it was more food than anything else but because I had that healthy foundation I was able to go back to that maybe a little bit easier," she said.

Menounos said that the key is understanding that weight loss takes time and to not call it a diet.

"I never say that I'm on a diet, I just slowly make better choices and clean out my diet and so if there's a moment when you really want that dessert, at the dinner table, no one is going to be looking at you like 'oh, you failed your diet.'"

As for staying healthy, she credits her food choices and a simple pedometer.

"So I get 10,000 steps per day. I try to eat 75 percent from the ground everyday, which means un-processed food so I eat as clean as I can."
