SOMERVILLE, Mass. (WHDH) - A 91-year-old woman was fatally struck by a delivery truck as she was in a Somerville's Davis Square crosswalk Thursday morning.

According to witnesses, the woman was in the crosswalk when she was struck by a FedEx truck.

“It kind of looked like she must have got hit from below, like tipped over. It looked like a hard impact,” Mike Pinto said.

The driver of the truck stayed at the scene where he spoke briefly with witnesses as police arrived.

“He’s of course quite shaken up, and he said something like ‘I didn’t see her',” Tom Glannon, a witness, said.

The victim was transported to Mt. Auburn Hospital with life-threatening injuries, where she was later pronounced dead.

FedEx released a statement offering their condolences.

"Our heartfelt thoughts are with all of those involved in this morning's incident. Safety is of the utmost importance to FedEx, and we are cooperating with the authorities as we try to determine what happened."

No charges have been filed at this time, but the accident remains under investigation.
