Man airlifted to hospital after Wilmington crash

Posted: Updated:
WILMINGTON, Mass. (WHDH) - A 52-year-old man from Lowell was riding his bike when police said a full-sized school bus hit him around 8 a.m. in a residential neighborhood in Wilmington.

After being treated at the scene, the man riding the bike was flown by medical helicopter to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.

The school bus is operated by North Reading Transportation. Police said the bus driver did not appear to be physically hurt, but was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Wilmington police and the State police reconstruction team spent the morning trying to piece together what actually happened. The bus was transporting children to a Wilmington grade school at the time. After the accident, the kids were put on another bus and a police officer rode with them on the bus to their school. Police said no children were hurt physically, but that they were clearly shaken.

This occurred at Tracy Circle and Woburn Street.
