Matt Damon talks Bulger movie at MGH Cancer Center fundraiser

Posted: Updated:

Actor Matt Damon and singer Philip Phillips were in Boston Tuesday to pay tribute to heroes in the fight against cancer.

It was a Damon family affair at Mass. General Cancer Center's annual fundraiser.

Kyle Damon introduced his brother, Matt, who talked about another notable Bostonian: Whitey Bulger.

Matt talked about how disappointed he was not to be making a Bulger movie because of the one currently being shot featuring Johnny Depp.

“I was sad to see it go, obviously being from here it was something I wanted to do,” he said.

Matt's father Kent, who battled cancer at Mass General and the reason the family comes to this event year after year, said he is even more upset than his son.

“I'm more disappointed about the Bulger move than Matt it because it would have been 3-4 months of him in the Boston area,” Kent Damon said.

The stars, including Chris Cooper, Valerie Harper and Phillip Phillips, came out for this event.

They talked of the doctors and researchers being the real superheroes.

When speaking of playing one, Matt Damon said he tried to get his friend Ben Affleck’s attention about the upcoming batman movie but so far nothing.

“I kept showing up at his house in a  Robin costume but it wasn't working, but we’ll see, I’m a pretty good swimmer, maybe they’ll come my way for Aquaman,” he said.

Damon also said that while he isn’t playing Bulger now, who knows what the future has for him.
