Two rescued from burning car in Florida

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. (NBC) - A family rescued two people in Florida whose car crashed into a tree and burst into flames.

Cellphone video captured the flames and thick black smoke. The two women barely escaped. Landon Jenkins and his 15-year old brother heard a loud bang and then someone screaming.

"We ran and pulled them out of the car before it burnt up," said Landon Jenkins.

Landon tells NBC2 , two other men stopped along State Road 82 near Daniels Parkway to also help.

Landon said the driver of the car was unresponsive and the passenger was shocked but talking.

"The one girl that was still conscious was just screaming so we just knew we needed to do something," said Shannon Jenkins.

Deputies opened up the road after shutting it down for several hours. Tonight, investigators are trying to figure out what went wrong.

The victims names have not been released. But Jenkins hopes his quick action will allow both women a speedy recovery.

"I hope that she's all right man. I really do. I really hope she's okay."

One of the girls remains in critical condition in an area hospital. Officials said that alcohol may have played a role in the crash.
