Bobcat spotted in Sharon backyard

Posted: Updated:
SHARON, Mass. (WHDH) - Sharon Police asked residents to be on alert after a bobcat was spotted in the area Sunday morning.

The animal was spotted on Billings Street. A woman snapped a photo of it walking in her backyard, coming within feet of her 6-year-old child.

It only spent about five minutes in the yard before running into the woods.

Police have released information regarding bobcats and while they say that the animals don't typically attack, people should stay away. Do not feed or approach it.

Residents are also encouraged to keep dogs and cats indoors and to not feed the wildlife. Anybody with poultry should keep them in a secure outdoor pen or house.

Anybody with any information on the bobcat are asked to contact the Sharon Animal Control officer.
