DOVER, N.H. (AP) -
Defense lawyers have wrapped up a second day of cross-examination of the former girlfriend of a man accused of raping and strangling a University of New Hampshire student.
Seth Mazzaglia is charged with first-degree murder in the October 2012 death of 19-year-old Elizabeth "Lizzi" Marriott, of Westborough, Massachusetts.
Kathryn "Kat" McDonough, the state's star witness, originally told defense investigators that she and Marriott were engaged in rough sex involving restraints when Marriott died. She says shifted the blame to the 31-year-old Mazzaglia after being given immunity from prosecution, telling investigators Mazzaglia strangled and raped Marriott after she twice rebuffed his advances.
The defense team will continue its attack on McDonough's credibility Monday -- her fifth day on the witness stand.
McDonough is serving 1 1/2 to 3 years for witness tampering and hindering the prosecution.
