FITCHBURG, Mass. (WHDH) -

A New England revolution player scored an educational goal Thursday.

Diego Fagundez graduated high school.

He replaced his jersey with a cap and gown to accept his diploma from Goodrich Academy in Fitchburg.

Fagundez, who is from Leominster, also spoke during the ceremony.

“It was one of those things where I didn’t want to finish school because I have soccer with me; but I also knew that I wanted to finish because it was going to be good for me to be a role model for other kids and the support that my family and my girlfriend and all of my friends gave me. They were like ‘you’re almost there, why not finish it off,’” he said.

He was signed to the Revolution when he was only 15-years-old and is in his fourth season with the team.
