Pavlo Papathanasiou got the surprise of his life Wednesday afternoon while at soccer practice in Newton.
It turns out the 8-year-old’s mother had entered him into a contest through McDonalds to win a chance to go to the World Cup in Brazil this month.
Pavlo can’t even quantify how excited he is.
“I don't know how much. It's like infinity," he said.
It's more than a trip and tickets to a game; Pavlo will actually walk onto the field with a member of the U.S. Men's National Team.
Pavlo’s dad, Harry, will also be making the trip with him.
"I can't believe it, trip of a lifetime: Pele, sambas, Brazil, World Cup craziness,” he said.
Pavlo is one of only a handful of winners from across the country.
"There were 26 winners across the country and to have one here in greater Boston, here in the Newton/Watertown area, it's fantastic and it's so cool to be part of it,” McDonalds representative Rich Hogan said.
Pavlo may be walking out with the U.S. team, but he really wants to see Argentina's soccer superstar Lionel Messi.
