Newton police investigating suspicious man with turtle

Posted: Updated:
NEWTON, Mass. (WHDH) - Police in Newton told parents to be on alert after two girls were approached by a suspicious man.

The two girls were walking home from school when they said a suspicious man approached them with a turtle in his hands.

The man reportedly said something about stranger danger then asked the girls where he should put the turtle.

The incident occurred near the intersection of Nevada and California Streets close to the Charles River.

One of the girls was holding the turtle but gave the animal back to the man and said they needed to leave before walking away.

Police are trying to determine if the incident was innocent or if he was trying to lure the girls away, and neighbors said they were still concerned.

“This day and age you can’t just go and approach anyone like that because everyone is suspicious,” Marc Augustin said.

The man told the two girls he worked at a local school but police said the school has no one by his description as an employee.

Newton police would like to speak with the man. Anyone with information is asked to call (617) 796-2100.
