N.H. teacher accused of touching student

DERRY, N.H. (WHDH) - A teacher at Pinkerton Academy faces five charges of simple assault after he allegedly touched a female student.

That teacher, 61-year-old David Howes of Windham, was accused of inappropriately touching a 15-year-old student in his classroom.

The student told police Howes put his hand on her inner thigh.

Howes, a building, construction and technology teacher, was put on paid administrative leave on May 27 and terminated by the school department on May 30 after they learned more about the alleged incident.

Students said Howes was a good teacher and a nice guy.

“I heard a lot of kids say he was a great teacher, he was cool and nice and all that stuff and I never heard anything bad about him until today,” one student said.

Some parent's think the school's decision to fire Howes went too far.

“Suspension with pay until they can sort things out, but to fire him, no that was wrong,” one man said.

Howes has been released on $10,000 bail and is due back in court June 19.
