Utah car chase ends in crash near park

Posted: Updated:
A car chase in Utah was caught on camera as a fleeing car took a turn into a park.

"There were probably like 15 kids present at the park at the time. Three of them almost got hit, they actually had to jump out of the way. He had to have been going at least 60 in the parking lot," said one bystander.

The teenager driving the car went on a joyride before he ended up at the Utah park. Police said the 14-year-old stole his grandfather's car and drove it several hours back toward his home.

"We caught up with him. And when the officer initiated the traffic stop, he did not slow down."

Police said the 14-year-old weaved at high speeds through neighborhoods and eventually turned into the park. Then, officers called off the chase for fear it might endanger kids there. One parent jumped in his truck and rammed the stolen car head-on to end the chase.

The man who stopped the erratic driver was watching his kids play at the skate park and said he didn't think too much about what he was doing, but that he was just angry someone would be driving so close to his kids.

"The person driving the truck could see it was turning back into the park and he did not want the car to hit all of the children or any of the children and he actually pulled his truck in the way."
