Neighbors describe fiery scene at Hanscom

Posted: Updated:
BEDFORD, Mass. (WHDH) - Neighbors who live near Hanscom Field described the scene of a plane crash on Saturday as something out of their worst nightmares.

"We looked and you could just see the big ball of smoke in the distance," said Emily Lloyd, one neighbor.

"The flames were a good 40-50 feet in the air, firefighters fighting it with foam and everything," said EJ Lloyd.

Around 9:40 p.m. Saturday, the plane crashed and the fireball lit up the night sky as the smell of aviation fuel filled the air.

EJ Lloyd said he was nervous that a residual explosion would occur.

Investigators said that based on witnesses from the surrounding neighborhood, they don't think the plane ever took off. Instead, it crashed 2,000 feet from the end of the runway.
