WOBURN, Mass. (WHDH) - The Boys & Girls Club in Woburn is shocked and saddened over child abuse allegations involving a former employee.

Christopher Elwell, 33, was indicted on three counts of rape of a child, indecent assault and battery on a child under the age of 14, dissemination of matter harmful to a minor and posing a child in a state of nudity.

Elwell was employed with the club as a Junior Director of Physical Education and allegedly first met the victim when the victim was 12 years old. The inappropriate sexual relationship allegedly took place over the next three years, from 2000 to 2003.

"We are shocked and saddened by the allegations and our thoughts are with the victim and her family at this time. The safety and protection of the children we serve is the number one priority of the Boys & Girls Club," the organization said in a statement.

The Boys & Girls Club is working with the Middlesex County District Attorney's office on the investigation.
