Explosions heard in Quincy before marathon bombing

Posted: Updated:
QUINCY, Mass. (WHDH) - A Quincy woman said she didn’t think anything of the two explosions she heard in March and April of last year, until she saw the Boston Marathon bombing on TV.

“We heard two explosions that shook the house. Not anything usual, there’s construction all the time, very unusual,” Liz Feitelberg said.

Feitelberg spoke to 7News about the incidents. She said the coincidence that she lives near Khairullozhon Matazan, a friend of the Tsarnaev’s who was arrested Friday, and heard the explosions before last year’s bombing is too much to ignore now.

The first explosion Feitelberg heard was on March 22, 2013 she tweeted "Just heard HUGE explosion in West Quincy... any idea what it was???"

Then, just a few weeks later on April 8, she heard another explosion. "OK - there was JUST a very audible explosion in West Quincy..." she tweeted.

She even tweeted to the City of Quincy account: “@CityofQuincy Any news of an EXPLOSION in West Quincy at 8:48 PM Monday evening?”

A police cruiser was sent to the neighborhood after the second explosion, but police couldn’t find anything out of the ordinary and didn’t even save an incident report from the call.

Feitelberg says she didn’t' think much about it until the marathon bombings and the FBI asked folks to contact them about suspicious incidents.

She reported what she knew and answered questions for two federal agents.

“What did they sound like, where do you think the direction they came from, were they long duration, short duration, did I hear anything fall or explode out of that,” Feitelberg said.

Feitelberg says news of Matanov's arrest is unsettling and a little too close to home.

She said she doesn’t remember seeing the suspect in the neighborhood.

When 7News reached out to the FBI, they said they do not discuss any contact they have with individuals. Feitelberg plans to get back in touch with the agent to remind them about her report.
