ARLINGTON, Mass (WHDH) - Class Act: Beverly Lipsey, Arlington High School

Arlington High School senior Beverly Lipsey has a lot to smile about because she spends her time making others smile.

The 18-year-old joined the national "Do Something Club" and started her school's own chapter to give back to her local community.

Beverly runs creative and successful fundraisers all year long, including "Teens for Jeans" where you can recycle your own clothes for people who don't have them.

She also ran a teddy bear drive, where the stuffed animals went to kids in Newtown, Connecticut following the Sandy Hook shootings.

"Organizing a club, especially at the high school level, takes a lot of effort. It can be hard to have a following and she really made the club a group that believe in the cause and want to do something to change the community," said Meagan Bassett, Beverly's advisor.

Beverly says her biggest influence is her mom.

"Her desire to help other people and her compassion for everybody certainly has been inspiring," Beverly said.

Her mom can't be more proud.

"She's a good person. Without anything around her, she'd still be Beverly and would still want to help everybody if she could," said Jessica Lipsey, Beverly's mother.

Beverly, the National Honor Society president, is heading to Smith College next year.
