Dorchester day care operator surrendering license

Posted: Updated:
DORCHESTER, Mass. (WHDH) - One day after a 2-year-old got loose from a day care, climbed to the roof of a four-story building and fell to his death the operator of that day care is surrendering her license.

According to day care regulators the woman had been cited several times in recent years for issues including over-enrollment and failure to follow safe sleeping practices.

Building inspectors went through the building and cited the operator for having a roof door that failed to close securely.

"I know that inspection services was down there yesterday and wrote up the door and there’s been problems with the door, but you can’t leave kids unsupervised,” Boston Mayor Marty Walsh said.

Investigators had already suspended the day care license for the investigation.

A Daylan Walker Memorial Fund has been established to support the family.
