MERRIMACK, N.H. (WHDH) -
Police and neighbors are on alert after a 9-year-old girl was the victim of a strange attack; the girl was in a neighbor's yard playing with a friend when a man trapped her in a garage.
“She came around the back of the house and apparently she encountered an individual who she could only describe as a dark-skinned male wearing dark clothing who apparently at one point grabbed her by the shoulders, opened the garage door, pushed her into the garage corner, closed the garage door and then fled,” Merrimack Police Captain Peter Albert said.
The girl’s 7-year-old friend told police she saw the man running off into the woods.
Police say no words were spoken between the man and the girl, and they say she was not harmed physically.
“She was very upset, her parents seem to be very attentive and have spoken to her at great length about this,” Albert said.
Neighbors say the area is usually very quiet, and everyone is coming together after the incident.
“We’ve been seeing police patrol the neighborhood and everyone’s being vigilant and we’re keeping an eye out for anyone who doesn’t belong around here. It’s normally a quiet neighborhood,” Greg Wadland said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Merrimack Police Department at (603) 424-3774.
