Former North Attleboro teacher accused of statutory rape

NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WHDH) - A former teacher at a North Attleboro school appeared in court Tuesday accused of having sex with one of his students.

Brian McBride, 31, was a music teacher in North Attleboro until January when he became a guidance counselor.

He faces three counts of statutory rape for encounters with a 14-year-old girl who told friends she had a crush on him.

“He picked her up in a car and drove her to the Emerald Square Mall, and at this point she states that she lost her virginity at this time,” prosecuting attorney Melissa Tafe said.

Prosecutors say McBride admitted to detectives had a "seven year itch" in his marriage and developed romantic feelings for his student, who is now 15.

Police say he also admitted to sexual encounters at the middle school music room, and at the home he shares with his wife and infant son.

In the courtroom community members yelled in outrage and parents at the school say they can’t believe it.

“I’m shocked. My daughter took voice lessons from him and he seemed like a nice guy,” Cindy Debronzo said.

Kids say Mr. McBride was, popular, a music teacher everybody thought was nice.

McBride’s father-in-law said his daughter, McBride’s wife, is devastated.

McBride has been held on $30,000 cash bail.
