WAREHAM, Mass. (WHDH) - A man in a wheelchair was killed after a crash in Wareham around 1 a.m. Saturday, according to investigators.

Wareham police said 28-year-old John Vandeusen of Middleboro was driving home when he hit the man in the wheelchair.

Joshua Macro, 24, was taken to Tobey Hospital in Wareham, where he died. The victim was reportedly about a mile from his home.

"It really hasn't hit yet. He lived life simple, everything for him was simplicity. He maintained it, was happy all the time," said one of Josh's family members.

The wheelchair was left on the side of the road as accident reconstruction worked on the scene.

Friends said Macro, from Onset, was a well-loved tattoo artist, and was heading home from a billiards game when he was killed.

The suspect faces charges of motor vehicle homicide, negligent operation, and failure to stay in marked lanes. He is set to be arraigned on Tuesday.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
