Legoland Discovery Center a hit with kids and adults

SOMERVILLE, Mass. (WHDH) - After months of preparation, Legoland Discovery Center in Somerville is now open for children and their accompanying adults.

Kids and kids-at-heart are getting together to celebrate the opening with one of the most popular toys of all time.

Displays include Fenway Park, the Prudential tower, the Hatch Shell and Cheers all made from existing Lego bricks from various kits.

“As a Lego fan, what’s better than seeing a city made out of Lego,” Ian Coffey, master model builder, said.

There are millions of Legos inside the center, but with so much to see it can be hard to pick a favorite.

“There’s Spongebob and Patrick sitting inside Fenway Park, you have to find them. There’s also a stormtrooper sitting in the stands of Fenway Park,” Coffey said.

Some families have been planning a trip to Legoland for months.

“It’s definitely living up to its expectation. It’s unreal that this is all built from Legos,” one mom said.

Even kids say the experience will stay with them.

“I would be inspired, I really like it so much that I would probably do it all my life,” Conlan McCartney said.

Adults need a child with them to visit, but Legoland will be doing adults-only openings the third Wednesday of every month.
