Cat recovering after 3-mile ride in car engine compartment

Posted: Updated:
MANCHESTER, N.H. (WHDH) - A cat is recovering after taking a 3-mile trip inside the engine compartment of a car.

The driver said she started to hear strange noises and when she stopped and popped the hood she discovered it wasn’t her engine purring.

The cat was treated for burns and cuts but doctors and shelter employees say it could have been much worse.

“He is very lucky. I can’t even imagine. I don’t even know how scalded and burned. Over 200 stitches is a lot, especially for a cat,” Manchester Animal Shelter manager Shelley Greenglass said.

The driver said the cat, Tommy, doesn’t belong to her.

He has been declawed and neutered but does not have a microchip.

Tommy has already received more than $5,000 worth of medical care all thanks to donations,

Anyone with information or who knows Tommy’s owner is asked to call Manchester Animal Shelter at (603) 628-3544.
