Plainville neighbors worried after coyote attack

Posted: Updated:

A nice day in Plainville meant a backyard ride on the swing for 5-year-old Erin Grace, but that tradition was violently interrupted Tuesday.

"We were about to head over to the swing set when all of a sudden I heard a loud, like, screaming and  yelping,” said Erin’s mom, Janice Grace.

Janice Grace said the coyotes were after her cat, but she didn't take any chances with Erin outside.

"I panicked, grabbed her, I said ‘let's get in.’"

The coyotes were so aggressive they clawed holes into her screened-in porch trying to get after Snowball the cat.

Janice's husband chased them away, apparently to a vacant house next door.

"That's where they are, that's where they're probably living," Janice said.

In the past, she tried to get the town to do something about the house, which was damaged by fire.

Now she and neighbors said it's more than just an eyesore, and there may be others taking refuge there.

"I've been over there before and seen hypodermic needles on the floor. This is my concern, it's not safe,” Clinton Crocker said.

Town officials said an elderly woman, who now lives in a nursing facility, owns the home and that there's not much they can do about it.

They also said they doubted the coyotes came from there.

Janice Grace said she's convinced they live there and is concerned that those coyotes could come back for more.
