MBTA bus driver suspended without pay after crash

Posted: Updated:
NEWTON, Mass. (WHDH) - The MBTA bus driver involved in the crash in Newton on Sunday has had her license revoked and has been suspended without pay.

Two Boston police officers when to 42-year-old Shanna Shaw's Mattapan home and served her with papers to revoke her driver's license, effective immediately.

The Registry of Motor Vehicles determined that Shaw posed an immediate threat to public safety after the Newton Police Department filed a report.

The MBTA police report says Shaw told them after Sunday's crash in Newton that a sneezing fit caused her to lose control.

But investigators who reviewed video surveillance from the bus say Shaw "had an item in her left hand, consistent in size and shape, with a cellular telephone."
