Andover teacher accused of sexually assaulting teen

ANDOVER, Mass. (WHDH) - Parents in Andover are upset after learning that a middle school teacher allegedly sexually assaulted a teenager in New Hampshire.

Police say Darrell Keene met the 15-year-old online then drove up to Stratham, N.H. where they met in person and the victim was sexually assaulted.

“I’m concerned that he’s in a middle school and he supposedly did something with a child,” Cathy Heeley, a parent, said.

Keene, a math teacher at the school, was arrested on school grounds Monday afternoon.

He appeared in Lawrence District Court on fugitive from justice charges and agreed to go back to New Hampshire to face the sexual assault charges.

School officials have released a statement saying they don’t believe any students were involved.

“We have no information that the allegations involve any Andover students… The safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority,” the statement said.

Parents say they are making sure there children know when something is wrong.

“You want them safe at school so you need to talk to them about strange actions of adults and let us know if they ever have a concern,” Heeley said.

Keene was placed on administrative leave. He is being held without bail in Massachusetts and will soon be brought to New Hampshire.
