HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (WSVN) -- A homeless woman is recovering from serious injuries after the driver of a pickup truck mowed her down as she sat outside outside a shelter, and it was all caught on camera.

The woman was struck Monday night outside the Homeless Voice shelter located at 1203 N. Federal Highway in Hollywood. The incident was caught on video by a surveillance camera.

A white Chevy pickup truck could be seen zooming past the woman and a man, sitting on the curb of a driveway. They turn to look where the speeding pickup drove only to see it back up toward them again. They panic and scatter, but the woman falls into the path of the truck and is run over. The pickup then fled the scene, and the woman had to be hospitalized.

Steve Dickey witnessed the pickup speed into the driveway of the Homeless Voice. "It was almost like he was running from something. What? I don't know because he came in here-- as you saw on the video-- he shot in here fast. It's a driveway, and there were two people sitting right here on some milk crates. You see them in the video. You see them back up right away when he came in, but they still that there."

But what happened next, seemed even more strange. "When he started to back up like this, he actually swung the other way, and that's when he hit the girl," said Dickey.

Witnesses said the driver of the pickup seemed to turn the wheels of the truck toward the woman and man deliberately. "It almost looked like he did it on purpose," said Sean Cononie, a spokesperson for the Homeless Voice.

They also said the driver appeared to be in a hurry or was very upset about something. "It doesn't seem normal at all," said Dickey, "because on the video, the guy came in like very fast, and it's almost like he realized he made a mistake by pulling in here."

Cononie ran to the injured woman's aid before she was taken to a local hospital. "She was in a large amount of pain," said Cononie. "I was the one that worked on her. The nurse here dropped off some blankets. She stopped by and helped, and me and another first responder from the shelter started working on her. She had some pretty big bruises and abrasions on the midsection of her body, maybe a broken hip, maybe broken leg."

The driver was going so fast, skid marks were left in the driveway. Police want to know if this driver targeted this woman or did this on purpose. Cononie said, "If anybody saw a white truck here at 1203 in Hollywood N. Federal Highway, come in and get out real quickly, if you happened to see where the vehicle went, got a tag number or something like that, please call the Hollywood Police Department."

If you have any information on this hit and run call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
