Pancreatic cancer to be second biggest killer by 2030

Posted: Updated:
A new study suggests pancreatic cancer will become the second leading cause of cancer deaths by the year 2030.

Researchers project lung cancer will still top the list, but pancreatic and liver cancers will jump to the second and third spots surpassing breast, prostate and colorectal cancers.

These estimates are due to changes in demographics like an increase in the number of aging baby boomers and minority populations as well as improvements in cancer screening and prevention methods.

Experts say pancreatic cancer is difficult to treat because it's located deep in the abdomen and tumors often spread early in the disease.

The same study projects breast, prostate and lung cancers will remain the three most diagnosed forms of the disease.
